In 2019, I led a strategic marketing campaign to drive admission sales for the Royal BC Museum's "Maya: The Great Jaguar Rises" museum exhibition and gala event. As the sole creative lead, I designed captivating event material that highlighted the exhibition's unique elements and cultural significance. The campaign included print ads, digital banners, social media graphics, and outdoor signage, all crafted to maintain visual consistency. This multi-faceted approach ensured broad reach and engagement, successfully boosting ticket sales and attracting a diverse audience eager to explore the wonders of the Maya civilization.
An extensive amount of collaboration was necessary with the Guatemala Ministry of Culture and Sports to ensure the accuracy of the glyphs used in the museum exhibition marketing campaign. These glyphs, which translated to "The Great Jaguar Rises," were integral to the exhibition's identity. The color palette for the event material and campaign was inspired by the vibrant hues of handmade Mayan blankets from Guatemala, adding authenticity and cultural richness to the visual presentation.
Several versions of the creative were drafted for approval, with the winning design chosen for its accurate representation of the glyphs and the striking contrast of their vibrant colors against a dark background. This combination created a strong visual draw, captivating potential visitors and enhancing the overall appeal of the museum exhibition's marketing campaign and event materials.
The annual gala, aligned with the museum exhibition, is a crucial philanthropic event for the museum's financial sustainability. As the sole creative lead, I designed event materials to reflect the elegance of the occasion. Using premium paper stock that mimicked stone, glyphs were debossed to resemble stone wall carvings. Modest spot glosses added texture contrast, enhancing sophistication. These materials supported fundraising efforts and integrated seamlessly with the exhibition's thematic elements.
The event materials for the Royal BC Museum's annual gala included a sophisticated array of pieces tailored to reflect the theme of the 'Maya: The Great Jaguar Rises' museum exhibition. From the elegant save the date card and intricately themed invitation to the thoughtfully designed envelopes, card sleeve, menu showcasing Maya-inspired cuisine, and distinctive table name and number cards adorned with Mayan motifs, each element was carefully crafted to immerse attendees in a cohesive experience.
The marketing campaign for the 'Maya: The Great Jaguar Rises' museum exhibition proved highly successful for the Royal BC Museum. Its immersive design and captivating promotional materials contributed to a significant increase in visitor engagement and ticket sales. The success extended beyond the initial run, as the exhibition's creative elements, including the thematic design and promotional artwork, were sought after by other internationally recognized museums. These museums purchased the event material to maintain a consistent and compelling visual identity when hosting the exhibition.
